About
Laboratory testing and the staff members who provide these results play a critical role in the work conducted by Infection Preventionists. By strengthening these bonds between Laboratorians and Infection Preventionists, hospital services and patient care are improved.
As a Medical Technologist, MLS (ASCP) with eight years of experience, experience working directly with Infection Prevention during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, and an associate certification in Infection Prevention and Control, I have been able to gain a better understanding of the benefits of shared knowledge between laboratory services and infection prevention practices. Much of what is available about the direct collaboration between laboratorians and infection control is through the views of professional organizations or academic institutions. I hope to provide a personal insight into the collaborative role of these two uniquely different, but equally important professions.
